Add-ons in Mobile Home Parks
Our Director of Development Services would like to know if any Code Enforcement jurisdictions regulate add-ons and other structures that are built without permits in Mobile Home Parks. Is this something that you let L&I deal with, or does anyone have local building or zoning codes that have some control over things like add-on decks, stairs, storage spaces and extra rooms?

Apr. 15, 2025When I was in Tukwila, I had this conversation with L&I. We had a mobile that had a deck and porch roof added and attached to the mobile- and that fell to the local jurisdiction to regulate. L&I regulates alterations to the structure itself, including interior mechanical (water heaters, electrical, etc) plus new window or door openings, etc. Local building codes would address new decks, porch covers, stair/railing systems that weren't part of the originally sited mobile.

Feb. 12, 2026In Toppenish, L&I does its portion until the add-on happens, and I step in. We do have a current code that I use, and you can check it out and see if that works for you.rnWe do not allow add-ons until permits are obtained.rnrnTMC 15.01.060 - Unlawful acts and violations — Penalties
