Monetary Penalties
Do any other jurisdictions have a process used to collect the finalized daily monetary penalties upon issuing a Notice and Order to Correct (NOV) when the property is brought into compliance?

Aug. 11, 2026Issaquah updated their Code Enforcement code section in 2022 and we added a penalty Assessment which comes into effect after the compliance deadline for the Notice of Violation and Order has passed.rnTo date I've issued 3 such Notices of Assessment, didn't push to collect the first one when compliance was quickly achieved, the second one is still pending completion of a mitigation permit, and the third is about to go to collection.rn$250 per day per violation, issued in 30 day installments. The second Assessment we're waiting on the permit for is worth $60,000 at this time. Like PK stated, our goal is compliance and the Assessment is intended to be a big carrot to inspire compliance.

Aug. 8, 2026Typically we won't collected penalties if the property comes into compliance. The goal is compliance so we use fines as leverage to help nudge people along. Once the property is good, we will waive. rnrnWe had been big on voluntary correction agreements which had a line for fines, but we are likely going away from VCAs as they don't have to much force behind them. I believe the city has a collection agency that they work with that if we were to attempt collect fines and they refused we would likely use.
